Meet Team VOOR: Leonie Weis
We’re all passionate about sports. That’s why we created a platform designed to simplify the lives of athletes, coaches, and club managers. Your sport, our sport. Our team is here for your team! Meet Leonie!
Who are you and what exactly do you do at VOOR?
I’m Leonie, and together with my colleague Jaana, I am responsible for all marketing activities.
What has your career been like so far?
In 2020, I completed my dual bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a focus on Event Management. After that, I wanted to gain some international experience, so I accepted an offer for an internship in the International Department at Villarreal CF. This set the foundation for my future career. I’ve always known that I wanted to work in the sports industry, and I've stayed true to that ever since. During my master’s studies in International Sports Management, I completed various internships. After graduating, I worked in marketing for a football academy here in Spain, as well as for a company that produces performance trackers for football players.
You live in Valencia. How did you end up there?
After my bachelor’s degree, I really wanted to go abroad to gain professional experience, but also to simply get out of Germany. Then I received an internship offer from Villarreal CF in their International Department, and that was the starting point. Originally, I planned to stay for six months. Now, 3.5 years have passed, and I’m still here, with no plans to leave.
What would you like to achieve with VOOR?
My goal is to establish the platform internationally and make it an indispensable tool for clubs worldwide. I hope that more and more clubs will benefit from VOOR, allowing them to focus on what really matters: the athletic success of their teams and players.
How can we help clubs?
We want to help clubs by taking a huge organizational burden off their shoulders. Through our platform, they can work more efficiently and use their resources better. Whether it’s team organization, creating match schedules, or planning training sessions – VOOR simplifies all that and more. Supporting player development is also very important to us. We aim to make the daily life of coaches and all other stakeholders easier so that they can fully focus on the sport.
Which sport does your heart beat for and are you active?
That’s hard to say – I used to compete in gymnastics, so my heart will always beat for that sport. But I also share my heart with football, which I still play actively, and Padel, which I started playing after moving to Spain.
Are you a fan too?
Of VOOR? Absolutely ;) But otherwise, Eintracht Frankfurt!
Which sport have you never tried, but would you like to?
Skydiving and kite surfing.
What impact do you think sport can have on society?
Sports have an extraordinary power to unite people – across borders and generations. It speaks a universal language, the language of emotions, which everyone understands regardless of background, culture, or language. This becomes especially clear at major events like the Olympic Games or the FIFA World Cup and European Championships. People from all corners of the world come together to support their teams or athletes with excitement, passion, and joy.
What touches me the most is how much sports inspire younger generations. A good example is my nephew: before this year's European Championship in Germany, he had no real interest in football. But the excitement and energy of the tournament sparked something in him. Now, he’s passionate about the sport, has joined a club, and wants to play himself. This is the true magic of sports – it brings people together, creates unforgettable moments, and can ignite sparks of passion that last a lifetime.
